Tree trimmer dies in power line accident

TRAVERSE CITY — A tree trimmer contracted by Traverse City Light & Power died today after he made contact with a high-voltage power line.

The incident occurred at 9:38 a.m. in the 600 block of East Orchard Drive. No information was immediately available on the man, a contractor with Trees Inc., but neighborhood resident Bill Parrish said the victim was part of a two-man crew trimming a pine tree in the neighborhood.

"We heard a 'pop' and a second later heard (his partner) yell," he said. "We knew he was dead."

TCL&P Executive Director Tim Arends said the accident resulted in a power loss to 550 customers.
