CHARLEVOIX -- Two Central Lake Public Schools students died in a Charlevoix County traffic crash.
Taishaann* Moore, 11, and Skyler Keith Moore, 12, died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening on Deer Lake Road near Crozier Road. Police believe the driver of the vehicle, Jeremy Berg, 33, lost control as he drove down a hill.
The vehicle carried seven occupants and left the road and hit a tree at about 8:40 p.m. Both children were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, Lizabeth Quinones, 30, was taken to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey, where she was treated and released.
The rest of the vehicle's occupants were checked out and released by emergency personnel at the crash site.
Berg was not the father of the children, Charlevoix Sheriff George T. Lasater said, although the father was in the vehicle.
Speed may have been a factor, police said, and Berg is expected to be criminally charged in the incident.
