BENZONIA -- Gwen Frostic's nature-inspired art works charmed her fans and still draw a following years after her 2001 death.

But the future of the celebrated and beloved author and artist's Benzonia shop is uncertain. Gwen Frostic Prints, located off River Road, was closed and dark when visited late last week. An Honor State Bank official said it is under foreclosure.

Frostic, who reportedly left her business to friends, is an area icon and the shop a popular tourist destination hidden in a woodsy spot. It attracted tour groups and nature lovers who explored nearby trails.

The artist's association with the Benzie County community is a "real source of pride," said Mary Carroll, of the visitors bureau and chamber of commerce.
