2009 Veterans Day events

TRAVERSE CITY -- Other area events to celebrate Veterans Day on Wednesday include:

-- A free breakfast buffet at 8 a.m. for veterans at Northport Highlands in Northport. During breakfast Dick Grout will share his personal recollections of D-Day.

-- The Leelanau County community celebration honoring veterans begins at 11 a.m. at the Leelanau County Government Center on M-204. Color guards from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7731 and the Eagletown American Legion Post 120 will be joined by a keynote speaker, U.S. Marine Corp. Reserve Maj. Nick Martinson.

-- The Huron-Manistee National Forest will waive all fees for veterans.

-- Long Lake Elementary School in Grand Traverse County will hold a Veterans Day Assembly to recognize veterans in the school community beginning at 2:45 p.m.

-- American Legion Post in Frankfort, 206 Main St., will host a pot-luck dinner for all active duty military personnel, veterans and their families at 6 p.m.

-- Betsie Valley Elementary in Thompsonville will honor local area veterans during a special assembly beginning at 3 p.m.
