New officers for Cherry Fest board

TRAVERSE CITY -- The National Cherry Festival elected new officers for 2008-09 for the organization's revamped Board of Governors.

Mary Marois, a 20-year festival veteran, is the new board president. She recently retired as head of the state Department of Human Services for Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties, and served on the festival's finance, executive and reorganization committees. She's also served as an event coordinator and in other roles.

Also named to the board were president-elect Kay Raylea, finance officer Bob Reed, past president Ronald Hofmeister, cherry industry liaison Judy LaCross and Maurice "Mike" Bordon. Jan Warren will serve as an at-large community member.

Holdovers on the board include past president Barb Lemcool, Chuck Downey, Gerald Morris, Tino Breithaupt, Dennis Mikko, Kevin Jaeger and Traverse City Mayor Michael Estes.

Members stepping down from the board are Grace Callahan and Joe Winowiecki.
