FROM STAFF REPORTS
September 13, 2008 12:00 am TRAVERSE CITY -- State and county road agencies will both begin area road projects next week. The Grand Traverse County Road Commission is slated to resurface nearly 3.5 miles of Hobbs Highway, from Garfield Road to Scout Camp Road in southern East Bay Township. The work will begin Monday if weather permits, and additional asphalt work is expected to be completed Wednesday. Workers will return and place gravel on the shoulders of the newly paved roads during the remainder of the week, officials said. Lane closures are expected and motorists should expect traffic delays. The Michigan Department of Transportation crews will also begin a bridge replacement project in Mesick on Monday. About a half-mile of M-115 from the south junction with M-37 to Clark Street will be milled and resurfaced. The bridge over the abandoned Tuscola and Saginaw Bay Railroad corridor will be replaced. The $572,000 project should be completed by the end of October. Traffic flow will be maintained with a temporary traffic signal to allow the bridge to be replaced half at a time, officials said.
