TRAVERSE CITY -- Work crews will move a large transformer from Grawn to Elmwood Township that will slow traffic on two state highways.
Wolverine Power Cooperative is coordinating the project that will start at 9 a.m. this morning at Cherryland Electric Cooperative's headquarters in Grawn. The transformer will be moved along U.S. 31 South to Chum's Corner, then north on U.S. 31/M-37 into Traverse City to Grandview Parkway, then to M-72 in Elmwood Township. The move is expected to take around six hours and will slow traffic along the route, Cherryland officials said.
The transformer, which weighs approximately 200,000 pounds, is part of a joint project to stabilize electric service in the Traverse City area between Cherryland, Wolverine and Traverse City Light & Power.
