Charlevoix man killed in one-car crash

CHARLEVOIX -- A 64-year-old Charlevoix man died when the van he was driving struck a tree.

Thomas Collins was driving a minivan down Old U.S. 31 near Boyne City Road in Hayes Township at about 2 a.m. Tuesday when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit a tree.

Charlevoix County sheriff's deputies found Collins trapped in the van and not wearing a seat belt. He was dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.
