TRAVERSE CITY -- The city will continue fighting a state Department of Natural Resources decision that bars the city from expanding swim areas or establishing "no-boat mooring" sections near the beach.
City officials requested permission in an effort to disband boat flotillas near beaches adjacent to Clinch Park Marina, but the DNR doesn't want the city preventing access to state-owned waters.
Commissioners on Monday authorized the city attorney's appeal of the DNR's denial in 13th Circuit Court.
The city attorney also will make an appeal with the Michigan Natural Resources Commission, a seven-member, governor-appointed group that establishes DNR policies.
