Burglary suspect arrested in Benzie

ELBERTA -- A Frankfort man was arrested for allegedly breaking and entering a business in Elberta, and is suspected in an attempted burglary just down the street.

The suspect, 19, was arrested around 4:10 a.m. Tuesday just outside the Lighthouse Cafe on Frankfort Ave. He was found with money and a beverage from the business, said Benzie County Sheriff Rory Heckman.

Authorities also discovered an attempted break-in at the nearby Mayfair Tavern.

The suspect used a bicycle and was dressed in black clothing, including a hooded sweatshirt, Heckman said.

The suspect was arrested for breaking and entering, attempted breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools. He is being held at the Benzie County Jail, pending charges.
