July 17, 2008 12:00 am TRAVERSE CITY -- Motorists should expect delays on Silver Lake Road, Barlow Street and westbound South Airport Road beginning Friday due to road construction. Weather permitting, contractors will pave the intersection at Silver Lake and Franke Roads Friday morning and move to Barlow Street in the afternoon. Barlow will be repaved from Boon Street to South Airport Road. Both Silver Lake and Barlow will be reduced to one lane with flag control during construction. Grand Traverse County Road Commission Manager Mary Gillis said one lane of South Airport also may be closed for short periods during the work on Barlow. She advises motorists to avoid both areas, if possible. Next week, contractor Elmer's Crane and Dozer plans to begin paving Silver Lake and West Silver Lake roads from U.S. 31 in Grawn to South Airport Road. The road will be reduced to one lane with flag control. Elmer's has not finalized its start date. Both projects are part of $4 million in road improvements planned for the summer in Grand Traverse County.
