American Indian displays and exhibits highlighting arts and crafts. A look back in history at the heritage of the Grand Traverse region. Visit the upper deck of the Festival Open Space Park for the American Indian Pow Wow at noon.

Heritage Day Old Fashioned Picnic

An old fashioned picnic will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch is $3 for adults and $1 for kids under 12. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Heritage Center. Enjoy favorite games from years gone by such as the potato sack race, cherries on a spoon race, tug-of-war and more until 2:30 p.m. Also enjoy stories from the past with Jim Ribby, a discussion of the logging history in northern Michigan from Hartwick Pines, a nurses station and the Gracie L boat.

Grand Traverse Band Pow Wow

The National Cherry Festival will celebrate the heritage of the region with an American Indian Pow Wow dance, presented by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Come and see the colorful display of dance and drumming and taste American Indian cuisine.

A one-minute judged skate competition. Age divisions are 13-17 and 18-21. Helmets are required. Skaters age 13-17 will require a liability waiver signed by a parent. Register on-site beginning at 2:30 p.m.
