Wooden boat sinks in its Suttons Bay slip

SUTTONS BAY -- Authorities soaked up a small amount of gas and oil after a wooden boat sunk in its slip.

A 34-foot 1966 Pacemaker sunk in its slip at about 6:30 a.m. Friday, Suttons Bay Village Manager Wally Delamater said.

Wooden boats sometimes soak up large amounts of water when they are launched at the beginning of the season, and officials believe the vessel's bilge may have given out.

The boat was lifted with a crane, pumped out and towed out of the water, Delamater said. Gas and oil that leaked from the vessel was contained in the slip and soaked up.
