Downstate man faces drunken driving charges

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- A downstate man faces drunken driving charges.

Mark Earl Collins, 31, of Northville, is charged as a habitual offender with third-offense drunken driving and second-offense operating with a suspended license.

A Traverse City police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Collins Tuesday, court records show. The officer said Collins smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech.

Collins has a 2004 Oakland County operating while intoxicated conviction and a 1998 operating while intoxicated conviction in Grand Traverse County. In 1997, he was convicted in Kalkaska County of operating as a minor with a blood alcohol content.
