Log Cabin Day is slated for Sunday

OLD MISSION -- The annual Log Cabin Day sponsored by the Old Mission Peninsula Historical Society will be held Sunday at Lighthouse Park.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is part of a statewide observance at historic log cabins throughout Michigan. The local event will include historic re-enactments, craft demonstrations and tours of the Old Mission Lighthouse.

The 1856 Hessler log home within the park is the event's centerpiece. The event will include a display of missionary Peter Dougherty's newly restored ice house. Ice house tours and a video of its restoration will be shown at the historic Dougherty House in the village.
