Teen suspect may face assault charges

TRAVERSE CITY -- Police plan to seek assault charges against a Traverse City teen after an incident at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.

Traverse City police went to Munson Medical Center Thursday evening on a report of an assault. Witnesses and the alleged victim, 17, of Kingsley, said the victim and his friends were at the Civic Center stage area when the suspect, also 17, approached them.

The suspect allegedly made "inflammatory" statements to the victim and punched him in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.

Police said the two teens knew each other. The alleged victim remained at Munson in serious condition Friday.
