Explosion destroys vacant gas station

EAST JORDAN -- An early morning explosion and fire wiped out a vacant gas station in this Charlevoix County town.

The East Jordan Police Department said the explosion at Southside Mobil occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. Saturday on South M-66 near Rogers Road. The business closed about five years ago. Preliminary findings by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall indicate the explosion was accidental. No injuries were reported.
