BELLAIRE -- A Florida man is locked up in the Antrim County Jail on a felony assault charge.

Jerry Jean-Rene, 25, allegedly choked his girlfriend and slammed her head against a wall during an hours-long, drunken argument, said Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean.

Jean-Rene is charged with felony assault with intent to do bodily harm. He faces up to 10 years in prison, if convicted.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance around 6:40 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 131 in Mancelona Township and arrested Jean-Rene. The victim had red marks on her neck and bruises, and was taken for treatment to Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, Bean said.

Jean-Rene was arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court in Bellaire, and Judge Thomas Phillips set his bond at $100,000. He is set to appear in court on June 2 for a pre-trial hearing, court records show.
