Northern Notes: Thanks for bouquet

Leola Yankee, who lives at Boardman Lake Glens Assisted Living in Traverse City, wrote to share just how kind people are in Traverse City.

On Mother's Day, Leola was in Tom's Food Market on 14th Street. The lady in line behind her had a bouquet of roses and Leola commented on how beautiful the flowers were.

"She told me she was going to buy me a dozen," Leola wrote. "She let me go and pick out any bouquet I wanted (and) she spent $13.98 on someone she didn't even know. I want to thank her for sharing her kindness with others, but I don't know who she is. Please share this so I can let her know how thankful I am for people like her. I would like to invite her here for lunch one day so I can pay it forward."

In February, World War II veteran Del Corner sent out a request for vehicles for several World War II veterans. He got two calls, but unfortunately lost the numbers.

"I am making the request again and one of the cars needs to have a flat surface in the rear, such as a van," Del wrote. "The person donating the vehicle(s) can receive a tax write-off."

Anyone willing to donate a decent vehicle to a World War II veteran is asked to call Del Corner, 632-6955.

In response to an article in the March 28 Faith section of the Record-Eagle about the Feinstein Foundation $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger, Liz Hagan, of Williamsburg, organized a food drive for Trinity Lutheran Church, of Traverse City.

Liz held the food drive at Wal-Mart in Traverse City and collected food and money for Trinity's food pantry. Traverse City Christian School created posters and local publishers also helped make this food drive fundraiser a success.

Trinity Lutheran Church would like to thank Liz, TC Christian School, local publishers and especially the generous community for giving at the April 18 food drive.
