TRAVERSE CITY -- A Fife Lake man is behind bars on multiple felony charges after he allegedly fled a police vehicle and led officers on a foot chase.
Justin Duane Holecheck, 28, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting and obstructing arrest, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of failing to appear in court, Traverse City Police Capt. Steve Morgan said.
City police responded to a call about a suspicious person just before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Santo Street, after someone reported seeing Holecheck entering a house through the back door. When they arrived, officers spotted Holecheck and confiscated a 13-inch knife with an 8-inch blade, authorities said.
Holecheck was arrested on an existing warrant for the missed court appearance, for a felony drunken driving charge, and was put in the back of a police vehicle, police said. But he allegedly adjusted his handcuffs and escaped while officers talked to a witness, authorities said. He again was arrested after allegedly running away.
If convicted, Holecheck faces up to five years in prison for the concealed weapon charge, and up to two years for the resisting and obstructing charge.
