Alanson man accused of embezzlement

TRAVERSE CITY -- An arrest warrant has been issued for an Alanson man accused of embezzling from his employer.

Matthew Everett Karbowski, 37, was charged with one felony count of embezzlement by an employee of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, court records show.

The charge carries up to five years in prison, if convicted.

Karbowski had not been arrested as of Wednesday.

A security agent with Avis car rental service, where Karbowski was a manager with access to a company bank account, allegedly told Traverse City police checks had been improperly written to the man, records show.

Karbowski allegedly later said he wrote checks in his name totaling about $3,000, records show.
