MANCELONA -- Two finalists have been named in the search for Mancelona Public Schools' new superintendent.
Jeffrey Liedel, superintendent of Vanderbilt Area School District, and Alba Public School Superintendent Jeffery DiRosa will be interviewed at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively on May 13 in the Mancelona Middle School media center.
Prior to the final interviews, representatives from Mancelona will visit Liedel's and DiRosa's home districts, and both candidates will tour Mancelona schools early next week.
A special school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 14 to name a new superintendent. The public is encouraged to attend.
Free cherry blossom tour held Saturday
LAKE LEELANAU -- A free Leelanau County Cherry Blossom Tour this weekend will take participants on a scenic bus ride to enjoy the county's countryside and learn about the local cherry industry.
Buses will depart the Connie Binsfeld Building in Lake Leelanau every 20 minutes between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday with stops at the historic St. Wenceslaus Church and Cherry Bay Orchard. The tour will focus on the importance of the cherry industry to Leelanau County with descriptions of area farms.
A free cherry bratwurst lunch and entertainment will be provided. The tour is first-come, first-served. For more information contact the Leelanau Conservancy at 256-9665.
