Gaylord man killed while crossing M-32

GAYLORD A Gaylord man was struck and killed by a passing motorist while trying to cross a state highway in Otsego County.

Robert "Robby" Frank Wizinsky, 54, appeared to be walking across M-32 near Big Lake Road around 10 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle moving west along the highway struck him. Authorities continue to investigate, said Sheriff Jim McBride.

The driver, Kay Beth Schirmer, 53, of Johannesburg, was not injured, nor were two passengers in her vehicle. She was not cited at the scene, McBride said.

Otsego County Prosecutor Kyle Legel will review the case and decide whether to file criminal charges.

Wizinsky owned a chain of Arby's Restaurants in Gaylord, Petoskey, Cheboygan and Sault Ste. Marie, according to obituary information. His funeral will begin at 12 p.m. today at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, after visitation is held at 11 a.m.
