Soccer tourney will help quake victims

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- An indoor soccer tournament Feb. 27 and 28 will benefit victims of the Haiti earthquake.

"Futsal 4 Haiti" will be held at the former Norris Elementary School, M-22 and Cherry Bend Road. Futsal is played on a hard court with a special "low bounce ball" and five players on a team. It's mostly played in South America, Europe and the Caribbean and only recently has been catching on in the U.S.

The tournament costs $20 per player. Youth games will be played on Saturday and adult games will be played on Sunday. Each team can have six to eight players and will be guaranteed three games.

All proceeds will go to the Red Cross. For more information or to register, go to www.gtsoccerleague.org.
