Robert Griffin and Al Ockert, members of the Traverse City VFW Post 2780, participated in the annual raising and lowering of more than 675 American flags in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The flags honor fallen veterans who are buried in the cemetery. The practice started in 1960; most of the flags used were originally presented to families of the deceased by the United States.
