Taxpayers took hit
The state police officer who left his loaded handgun in a public restroom should be responsible for the following:
- He should be required to reimburse Kalkaska County taxpayers for the cost to investigate and prosecute the gun finder.
- He should also be required to publicly thank the finder for not selling the gun on the street in Saginaw, Flint or Detroit.
Cost us billions
According to an Oct. 18 news article Rep. Benishek voted to end the shutdown and “reopen the government and prevent it’s defaulting,” saying “northern Michigan families deserve a government that’s open and running,” and lastly, “and their finances not put at risk by a shutdown.” What a hypocrite.
In late August, Benishek was a signatory, along with 80 fellow congressional teapublicans, to a letter drafted by Mark Meadows, R-NC, urging Boehner and Cantor to de-fund Obamacare, including “any continuing appropriations bill (meadows.house.gov).” This letter helped precipitate a 16-day government shutdown that will cost Americans billions. This was a very costly shutdown provided to us by our tea party “patriots”; so I say no accolades to Benishek. He did not experience a last-minute epiphany for his constituents. He is the problem, not the solution.
Benishek is ranked 55th in wealth out of 435 house members. He also received from medical contributors $86,000 in political funds in the last election. It begs the question: why would a doctor who became a millionaire want to change the system in which he thrived? First do no harm? How about costing us all billions?
