We’ve met the enemy
Congress’ approval rating has sunk to single digits and the political microcosm of northern Michigan offers clear reasons why this is so.
When I sent a letter asking Rep. Benishek to explain exactly which parts of Obamacare he opposes, I received yet another form e-mail, espousing his medical experience and crowing about the fact that he voted to end Obamacare 40 times. He insults my intelligence, and then he doesn’t answer my question.
Upon calling Rep. Ray Franz’s office in early afternoon to ask him about an issue, I found out that he left Lansing early, on a work day, to attend a Tea Party rally in Ludington.
We can’t forget the tin foil hat twins, Rep. MacMaster and Sen. Booher, who seriously believe that the United Nations will take over our country, that climate change is an elaborate hoax, that destroying the environment in the name of “property rights” is somehow patriotic and that all public institutions should be privatized.
We can do so much better than these shills for the Koch brothers. When guys like this are elected, it becomes obvious that Pogo was correct when opined, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”

An impeachable act
The Aug. 12 opinion cartoon chastises Fox News for being hypocritical on Obama’s handling of embassy security. But what really disturbs many Americans is this President’s abject failure, as Commander-in-Chief, to defend the Benghazi embassy, not evacuate it. So the Yemen decision is then seen as “cut and run” by many who expect a president to protect our sovereign embassies.
If conditions in those nations are so out of control, and the sitting president is unwilling to take appropriate action, then just close the embassy until there is a strong enough government with which to have relations. And expel their diplomats from U.S. soil where they enjoy peace, security, and political/legal immunity, courtesy of the U.S.A.
Yes, I agree that Obama and his staff committed a cowardly, unforgivable, impeachable act when they allowed our ambassador and members of his military guard to be heinously slaughtered by a mob of thugs. That this act was left unpunished brings shame to the office of president and weakens the U.S.A. in the eyes of our allies and opponents.
