---- — The minority rules
Consider the reality of our bedrock Constitutional principle, majority rule.
In 2012 Michigan Democratic House candidates got 350,000 more votes than Republicans, but gerrymandering gave Republicans control of the state House. The minority rules.
In 2012 U.S. House races, 1.3 million more voters voted for Democrats, but gerrymandering gave Republicans control of that House. The minority rules.
In the U.S. Senate, filibuster abuse enables Republican minorities to kill legislation before debate. Background check legislation favored by 85 percent of Americans — and a majority of Senators — was recently filibustered to death by a Republican minority — ruling by veto.
The reality could get worse. In Michigan and elsewhere, Republicans want to change how Electoral College votes are divided, in effect gerrymander presidential elections so their candidate could be elected with a minority, maybe less than 40 percent, of the popular vote. Republicans evidently think their entitlement is to rule, even as a minority.
Minority rights don’t include minority rule.
Our strength as a nation depends on the integrity of our political system. Any political party that mounts a sustained, systematic, well-funded and (so far) successful attack on majority rule doesn’t deserve anyone’s vote.
An ‘empty suit’
Our president stated while campaigning, “We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” After laying out his directives so clearly he could then place his radical friends in positions of authority, counting on them to do his bidding without telling him. What better way to be able to repeatedly say, “I knew nothing!” Perhaps a true leader would have overseen the work of his appointees.
The media, who by turning a blind eye to his actions, assisted in the reelection of this president, now complain about being wire tapped.
This president, who recently told Ohio State University graduates they should reject those who warn of government tyranny is now embroiled in actions which can only be described as government tyranny — punishing and intimidating those Americans who do not agree with his agenda. What has become of American freedoms?
So now we have an administration battling multiple scandals. Obama’s appointees have indeed done an excellent job of “punishing his enemies and rewarding his friends.” Obama is either lying, is an “empty suit,” or is unwilling, uninterested or unable to control his own administration.
