Not an award winner

I am proud to have been a Traverse City Area Public Schools teacher and publications adviser from 1976 until 2003. My late husband was proud to be a highly respected broadcast journalist in northern Michigan for over 30 years. As I looked at the front page of the Sept. 1 Record-Eagle, I mistakenly thought that I was looking at a seedy tabloid, not an award-winning newspaper.

I assume that the article "Area has at least 6 school sex cases" and appalling, amateur graphic won't be entered for any award.

At least both were below the fold.

Obama's leadership

Obama is correct to allow taxes on very high incomes return to where they were under Clinton when we arguably had the best economy in American history.

Obama's leadership showed when he stood up to the oil industry by substantially raising mileage standards. This is the only way to have a meaningful effect on gasoline prices and will also greatly reduce our gas costs simply by reducing the amount we consume.

Not surprisingly, Marathon Oil chose the two months prior to the election to close their Detroit refinery. Their industry wants Obama gone because he works for the people.

Committed to serve

Getting to know your community is important. Kirsten Keilitz grew up here, lives, works and volunteers here. Her current job experience as Circuit Court Referee and Probate/Family Division Referee, to which she was unanimously appointed three years ago, provides her with the necessary qualifications to perform for Grand Traverse County as Probate Judge.

Kirsten is committed to our community. She is the right person to preside over a court that deals with family and personal issues. She is compassionate and experienced. Kirsten understands how the court system works.

Join me Nov. 6. Vote Keilitz for Grand Traverse County Probate Judge.
