A perfect relationship
We have finally arrived at a perfect symbiotic relationship with our neighbors to the south — the Mexicans. We send them guns. They send us drugs. A perfect symbiosis (but who are the intended victims?).
Must respond to needs
Several days ago I heard a Republican TV commentator blaming the “collapse” of the stock market on Obama. I wondered what kind of stuff was on this person’s diet. The stock market is at an all-time high. Unemployment is at an eight-year low, and corporate earnings are at an all-time high. The problems we have are that we need more jobs; wages have not kept up with inflation; we are still making war. We are not reacting to climate change, and our education efforts are not keeping up with the world. And all effort to move into a leadership role in these areas is being stonewalled by a Republican Congress.
It is very clear to me that to make real improvement we cannot go back to a government that got us into 10 years of continuous war and went from a yearly budget surplus to $10 trillion in debt. We need to replace our present, totally un-American Congress with one which is positively responsive to the needs of the vast majority of Americans.
Beware the boogeyman
The recent article in the Record-Eagle about Leelanau County commissioners’ concern over an Agenda 21 conspiracy reminds me of quotes from two great men. One was, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself” — Winston Churchill. The second was, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself and of course the boogeyman” — Pat Paulsen.
