Save me a spot
Thank you for the great article about the new bike and bus option that the Bay Area Transportation Authority provides to bicyclists to make it easier to ride the entire Leelanau Trail. If you enjoy that trip, I would like to recommend another. BATA also provides a bus from Traverse City to Glen Arbor — hourly on weekdays and three times a day on weekends. The new and incredibly beautiful Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail is a paved bike path that connects the Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear Dunes with Glen Arbor (the trail head is an easy and safe few blocks away from downtown by way of Highway 109 to Forest Haven Drive) with DH Day Campground and Glen Haven beach along the way.
If you have more people than bikes that wish to go, there is a great bike store near the bus stop in Glen Arbor that will rent one to you. Bring your park passes or buy them at the campground or dune climb, go shopping or grab a lunch or dinner in Glen Arbor, and save me a spot on the bus since its bike rack only holds two (or sometimes three) bikes.
4th should be unique
I’m writing in support of Wendy Warren’s June 23 Forum. I totally agree that the Cherry Festival should be scheduled later in July so that we can observe our Independence Day as the unique and important holiday that it is. As John Adams stated in a letter to his wife Abigail regarding the day, “It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and llluminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more.”
As for me, I will be traveling to Petoskey on July 4th to watch their parade and fireworks.
