An editorial on April 18 extolled the new Clinch Park. But have you looked at the most recent plan for Phase I?
When the commission voted on Jan. 3, Commissioner Moore said they had voted as they did because "this is the 'ah' plan that everybody kind of felt was the best they had seen."
Personally, I think "blah" is a better description for the March 14 plan. And I do not think I am alone.
In response to the Record-Eagle opinion poll asking "What bayfront feature are you looking forward to?" over 41 percent (159 votes) of the respondents said "don't want the bayfront redesigned."
"Expanded restrooms" came in a distant second with just under 25 percent (94 votes).
So what are the residents of Traverse City getting for $2.6 million?
Not much more than plumbing for a few water features (no fountain, no William G. Milliken Children's Stream) and a bathhouse.
The DDA is pledging $250,000 for the tunnel upgrades.
It's too bad a city snowplow tore up some of the railroad tracks this past winter, because in its current location the Spirit of Traverse City could run circles around the most recent design of Clinch Park.
