What are we thinking?

Yes, let's bring back the GOP, the party when last in the White House that nearly doubled the national debt ($5.6 trillion to $10.1 trillion), taking us from the brink of a balanced budget into major debt. The two draft dodgers in charge lied us into a war without a plan to pay for it. Now the GOP is on the verge of nominating another major draft dodger who seems to love the idea of sending American troops everywhere.

Yes, let's bring back the GOP, in case there aren't enough flags at half mast in your town. As a disabled veteran of a useless war, what are we thinking?

Corn a health danger

Corn is one of our greatest health dangers when it appears in foods as high fructose corn syrup. Diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and clogged arteries are greatly enhanced by the rampant use of high fructose corn syrup in the American diet. (See

Corn is also being extensively used to create ethanol, which is inserted into our gasoline of today. Ethanol is designed for use in cars, but is not engineered for small engines like those used on lawn mowers, trimmers, etc. Ethanol absorbs water from the surrounding air and has a useful shelf life of about three weeks. After that, it begins to break down into less combustible materials. Small engines with fuel left in often won't start, or may not stay running. Usually a new carburetor is required.

There are supposedly only two gas locations in this area selling gasoline that does not contain ethanol. Look for "recreational fuel." Some boat harbors may sell it as well. You can also buy pre-mixed "fuel" and oil for small two-cycle engines for off-season use, but it is expensive.

High fructose corn syrup and ethanol are cheap fillers whose sole purpose is to increase profits at our expense.
