Enabling the homeless

The people of the Traverse City area need to think long and hard before they agree to allow a permanent shelter for the homeless.

Do not encourage these people to continue to make poor choices in their lives. There is a big difference between giving a “hand up” as opposed to a “hand out.” Many of these people choose to live their lifestyle so that they don’t have to work or be accountable to anyone for anything. They choose to live on welfare because it is easier than getting a job. They want welfare and then complain about it not being enough. They are always looking for more. Many of them use alcohol or other drugs to alleviate their problems instead of doing something positive.

There are legitimate cases of people needing short-term assistance of course. But many people get on welfare and stay on welfare for life. That doesn’t mean that those of us who chose to work all our lives owe them anything.

Their attitude of “entitlement” is a slap in the face to the rest of us who choose to contribute to society. Their work ethic is non-existent.

You are enabling these people.
