An impressive group

I had the pleasure of driving the West Middle School band and orchestra to the district competition in Elk Rapids. What an impressive group of young people. Their dedication to their music is outstanding.

Director Flournoy Humphreys runs a tight ship. The student’s’ hard work and dedication continued their 14-year tradition of receiving the highest possible scores.

Kudos to the students and their director.

Opposed to Air Walk

As a neighbor living in close proximity to the proposed Air Walk commercial enterprise in Kasson Township, I add my voice of dissent to this ill-conceived idea. If allowed to be built, the resulting traffic would forever destroy the quiet, rural atmosphere of this corner of Leelanau County and inevitably open the area to even further commercialization.

I am strongly opposed to the Air Walk proposal.

Best-kept secret

Bravo! For over 14 years the Northport community and the Northport Community Arts Center have been working diligently to “bring the arts home” — musical, visual, literary and dramatic. Already known for its natural beauty, the community is now benefitting from a new wave of entrepreneurs who are guiding the community into the better life of the 21st Century with renewable energy, new recreational opportunities, new gastronomical delights — Northport, the best-kept secret in Leelanau County.
