Protect our minds

I am disheartened with the format and content of what we are being fed as “news” on the national political scene. The evening news has morphed into a form of soap opera. Is Jared the father of Jessica’s baby? Will Chris Christie survive to run as the Republican candidate for president?

The topics change, but the basic trash content remains the same. Make sure that the “news” is not overwhelming you with superfluous and repetitive information. Talk show hosts then bore us further by regurgitating this garbage for two more weeks.

Perhaps it is time to put information overload on a diet. Consider changing channels when you are being schmoozed with intellectual compost.

There is a healthy beauty and creativity that can flourish when we protect our minds from fat-riddled ideas just as we have learned to protect our bodies from cholesterol-laden foods.

Recognize the effort

To the “boo-birds” who thought the city should hold out for a vintage business on the corner of Front and Division, take a moment to appreciate the features CVS added to the design, like large windows facing the street with local photo panels, a new version of awnings and a clock. It’s fair to recognize their effort and hope other businesses continue to do the same.
