What citizens want?

The Feb. 9 article “Proposed law would use CO2 to extract oil” is quite disturbing. This technique has already been used in Michigan to profitably produce more than a million barrels of oil. Included in the package of bills now being proposed is reducing taxes for using this method. Why are the politicians offering tax breaks to produce more oil? The climate crisis demands that we invest in clean energy now, not encourage more oil development.

Not even mentioned in the article is the fact that the proposed legislation also gives the oil companies the ability to invoke eminent domain to build the pipelines needed for transporting CO2 to well sites.

At this time there are no specifics available regarding the industry’s plans. Is this really what the citizens of Michigan want? Would you like an above-ground pipeline to go through your yard or your farm? Should oil companies be allowed to put their pipeline on your private property as they please, over your objections?

Call your state representative now if you believe this is not fair. A vote could happen soon.
