Who awarded contract?
I’m sure the Traverse City street work being completed by Elmer’s construction will be a nice improvement and it’s great to see at least a few people working courtesy of government-sponsored infrastructure improvements.
However, there is one thing about this project that troubles me. Why is it that all of that drain pipe comes from Canada? It would have been nice to keep those taxpayer dollars in the local economy or at least this country. I also wonder who in our local government awarded the contract and was there any consideration given to the use of foreign vs. domestic goods?
Who could want more?
In regards to the Veterans of Foreign War’s opposition to the “Welcome Home Veterans” sign, you’ve got to be kidding me. A “radical and political” organization?
Because a Veterans for Peace national president got arrested a few times and is proud of it? Starting with the first “radical and political” organization I can think of, the First Continental Congress, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Henry David Thoreau, Alice Paul and Martin Luther King, etc. Throughout our nation’s history people have been arrested, tortured and killed in the service of our country. So, if our founding fathers wanted to put up a sign at the airport welcoming home veterans the local VFW commanders would be against it, too?
Radical and political. And don’t tell me the VFW isn’t political. Veterans for Peace is a veterans organization that tries to make apparent the “true costs” of war to all involved. Their mission is to support alternatives to war. What’s wrong with that? If the VFW were smart they would get their logo on the sign and support it instead of being against welcoming home troops who gave their all and more.
Peace. Who could want anything more?
