Letters At Issue: Election: 10/28/2009

More of Moore

It is an honor to ask your support of our friend of 30 years, MaryAnn Moore, seeking a seat on the Traverse City Commission. Her strong code of ethics and dedication to hard work made her one of the top selling real estate agents in our community. MaryAnn has volunteered for the school system, Board of Realtors and, most recently, the Citizens Operational and Financial Analysis Committee, demonstrating her mission to work with others and make Traverse City the community it is today.

Please vote for MaryAnn Moore for city commission -- we need more of Moore!

Vote 'yes' for roads

The road millages before Acme and East Bay residents are far from being about one road! Together they would raise approximately $4.5 million for local road improvements -- 100 percent of which would stay in our communities.

Good roads mean better property values. The poor condition of nearby roads reduces home values by as much as 6.5 percent -- that's thousands of dollars. Good roads mean fewer vehicle repair costs. Good roads are safer for our families.

If increased property values and lower car costs aren't important, vote "yes" on Nov. 3 simply for the safety of our family, friends and neighbors.

Puckett right choice

I encourage the residents Grand Traverse County to vote for Julie Puckett for Traverse City Schools board of education. A vote for Julie is a vote for innovative tenacity, fairness and strong analytical skills. Her other qualifications include a master's in educational administration and policy and a bachelor's in mathematics.

I have known Julie for seven years and have complete confidence in her. She is one of the most conscientious mothers and educators I have met.

Visit PuckettForTCAPS.com and you will see she is the right choice. She has been endorsed by the teachers, food service and support staff unions.

Moore fair, ethical

Please vote for MaryAnn Moore for Traverse City Commission. I have worked with MaryAnn for 34 years in the real estate field, and I can attest to the fact that she is smart, ethical, creative and fair. She is also a hard worker and managed our real estate company while continuing to list and sell property. She is a great problem-solver and a natural leader.

As her friend and business partner for years, I can assure voters that she will listen to the citizens of Traverse City and be accessible to the people she represents.

Vote 'yes' for roads

People running negative campaigns do so because they realize they cannot refute the facts. The Fix Our Roads Committee is comprised of wonderful community advocates from Acme and East Bay townships, and I am proud to serve with them. They have studied road funding issues for nearly a year, met with our township, county and state representatives, and have spent countless hours working "positively" to improve local roads and make our community a better, safer place.

Find your way through the negativity, and do something good for your community -- join me in voting "yes" for our roads.

Puckett has background

Please join me in supporting Julie Puckett for the Traverse City Schools board. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Julie, from researching issues as concerned citizens to volunteering as fellow parents.

Julie will be a school board member dedicated to thoroughly analyzing issues and searching for pragmatic solutions. With a master's degree in educational administration and policy and personal experiences as a Traverse City parent, Julie has the background to bring positive change to a district experiencing important challenges.

Julie will bring a clear mind and honest heart to tough decisions on behalf of students and parents.

Millage best option

Our roads are a critical part of our community's infrastructure.

Yet many roads in Acme and East Bay townships are in serious disrepair, creating safety issues and lowering property values. Funds to fix our roads are not available from Lansing, via the gas tax or otherwise.

The Grand Traverse County Road Commission spends most of its limited funds on snow removal.

Special assessment districts don't work on "collector" roads where many utilize a road, but few live on it.

Our community's best option for safe roads is to vote "yes" on the road millage.

Hall has the skills

I would like to take this opportunity to endorse Kelly Hall for election to the Traverse City Area Public Schools board of education. Kelly is a caring individual with the skills to be an outstanding board member.

She will represent all segments of our community. Kelly understands the business aspect of education and the importance of a quality education for all children.

Money well spent

As a longtime resident of East Bay Township, having moved here in 1979, I urge residents to please support the millage request to fund needed road repairs within our township. Living here you know the need and the awful condition many of our secondary roads are in.

It affects not only safety and costly car repair, but our property values as well.

It will be money well spent, and it stays right here in our neighborhood. We can see what they are doing with it and the good it will bring, unlike most of the tax dollars we are assessed.

Vote 'yes' on roads

Kudos to Acme and East Bay townships for trying to find an answer to our crumbling local roads. Washington and Lansing don't care about our local roads. For about the cost of a quarter-pounder or two per month, we can have better roads.

It is time for residents to step up. Let's create a few jobs right here and increase our home values while decreasing the cost of our auto repairs. We must vote "yes" on Nov. 3.
