A developer's dream
Right. In 2004 the Traverse City Light and Power bay side plant was demolished and by 2005 the property had been converted to beautiful green Open Space. What a gorgeous view and wonderful space Traverse City gained by this transition.
From 2005 to 2008 more small local businesses moved into the area that was dubbed "the warehouse district" directly across from that Open Space and a vibrant, energetic environment quickly developed.
Fast forward to the Aug. 6, 2008, city commission meeting. Approval for the development of a four-story (44-foot high) national chain hotel with possible development of a four-story condominium site and additional four-story building to be built directly across from the Open Space from Hall to Garland Streets.
One of the key elements that attracted the downstate developers to this parcel of land was the beautiful view of the bay at the Open Space. Congratulations city commission -- Traverse City isn't for the local residents any longer -- it's a developer's dream.

Politically correct
I read a recent letter to the editor using a quote from John Stuart Mills in regards to war. I must point out that he also quoted the following: "Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative."
I will make a slight change and use the word "ignorant" instead of "stupid." I did this because I am such a politically correct liberal.

Keep on rollin'
Kudos to Elmers Crane and Dozer. Inc. Great job on the roads that they have done so far. I am sure it was annoying for some businesses and people trying to get to work on time, but the outcome for the rest of the year is nice, smooth roads. Keep on rollin', Elmer's.
