No Garden of Eden
If we are in a recession, it is due to the high price of gasoline and other sources of energy. As prices go up our purchasing power goes down.
Every retailer and manufacturer feels the loss of sales and must cut jobs. But it doesn't stop there. Our problems are multiplied by food prices driven higher because farmland is diverted to ethanol production.
Who can deny that this sad state of affairs was brought on by the environmentalists? Their "no drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, no drilling off-shore, no nuclear energy" has had the biggest impact on fuel prices.
But you have to pity the environmentalists, because they will never have what they want (the Garden of Eden, the perfect green planet) and we will suffer along with them when they completely ruin our economy.

Get involved in fest
I found it interesting that in a letter to the editor by Pamela Weber she found the National Cherry Festival out of control.
As an ambassador for 28 years in the Cherry Festival, I have found this unique, citywide endeavor to bring locals and visitors together for one of the finest festivals in the country. It's a shame that a Traverse City person like Ms. Weber would demean Tom Menzel by her comments while blasting the Cherry Festival.
Tom Menzel has brought control to the festival. With his leadership the festival is on solid ground, and he is working with city officials to improve the working relationship between the city and the festival.
I would like Ms. Weber to look at the festival in a positive way and see the benefits this wonderful festival brings to a fine city and to the hundreds of people who give countless hours to promote and enjoy the National Cherry Festival. I would also like to invite Ms. Weber to consider becoming an ambassador for the festival and get a brand-new vision of what really connects the festival and Traverse City.
