A film to think about

I just saw the documentary "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed."

I urge all persons who care about science and have the freedom to think for themselves to go see it. You will find this film educational, informative and entertaining. If you like Michael Moore documentaries, you should find this film just as enjoyable as his films.

Scientists must have freedom to research the evidence of the origin of life, wherever it points; and it is not allowed by the powers that be, those who hold the purse strings for research.

The leading Darwinian evolutionists and atheists do not want you to see this film. They hold the key positions in science and will not allow anyone to question or do research that will put Darwinian evolution in a bad light.

In this film, these leaders readily admit their bias toward intelligent design for the universe. Atheist Richard Dawkins, who wrote the book "The God Delusion," admits no one knows how life began on Earth. He says one possibility is intelligent aliens planted the first life on earth. How scientific is that? Please go see this film for your children's sake, and please take them with you.

Festival out of control

The city commission gave the Cherry Festival the OK to sell their wares at 5 p.m. on July 4, but they aren't satisfied. They want more. No, no, no. The Cherry Festival is three days too long now. Of course, being a native, I would like to see it cut down to a few days and have the excitement that was here in the '50s and '60s brought back. The current festival has grown out of control and needs to be stopped.

Please, commissioners, do not allow yourselves to be threatened by Mr. Menzel. "... if the city doesn't allow the beer tent and midway, we're better off just not opening anything."

Wouldn't it be wonderful to celebrate Independence Day in its own right?

Longer festival preferred

Obviously the people who are opposed to this idea of a longer Cherry Festival are the ones who never had to make a living from tourism. I grew up working in our family's restaurant in northern Michigan. We looked forward to the Cherry Festival because it meant more people in the area. This meant more people to spend money. Our tourist season is short enough already. There are plenty of businesses in the area that have to save up for the winter -- and ours is one of them. Throw us a bone!
