EDENVILLE, Mich. (AP) — Central Michigan authorities searching for a woman who disappeared on a date with a man she met online say a man killed himself as deputies arrived at his house, and the woman's body was found nearby.
Sheriff Jerry Nielsen said the body found Wednesday afternoon in Midland County's Edenville Township wasn't immediately identified as 45-year-old Leigh Swanson, of Saginaw County's Saginaw Township. Nielsen said Swanson left for the date Nov. 16 and called her mother Nov. 18, saying she'd be home soon.
Nielsen said as deputies approached a house where Swanson made the call, they heard a gunshot. He said a man emerged and told them his son had shot himself.
The sheriff said authorities found a woman's body near the home, which is about 10 miles northwest of Midland.
