GRAWN — There’s a new entertainment center in town that caters to both children and adults, and it’s equipped with more than bowling and video games.
Chris and Sandra Mohrhardt transformed Timber Lanes to Lucky Jack’s in 2011, then saw a need for an entertainment facility in northern Michigan that attracts all ages. They ended up with Incredible Mo’s, a 35,000-square-foot center at the former entertainment center Wilderness Crossing, 1355 Silver Lake Crossings Blvd.
They made top-to-bottom renovations to a building that sat vacant for about two years after Wilderness Crossing went bankrupt, Chris Mohrhardt said.
“Anyone who knew Wilderness Crossing and walks in here will think that it’s a totally new facility,” Mohrhardt said.
They added private party rooms, expanded the arcade, and got rid of attractions, like golf, that weren’t a wise use of space, Mohrhardt said. A playroom called Mini Mo’s is designed for children as young as 6 months old. Adults can play bocce ball and cornhole, and kids can navigate a laser maze or play laser tag.
The bowling alley turns cosmic at night, and there’s a full bar. A restaurant, Sauce, serves up pizza, pasta, salads and appetizers from shrimp tacos to Irish eggrolls.
Incredible Mo’s will host a grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. and discounts on games, food and beverages. The center quietly opened a few weekends ago.
Peter Starkel, branding strategist with Fun Advisors, which did consulting for Mohrhardt, said Incredible Mo’s is one of few entertainment centers in the state to offer bocce ball, and is the first in the country to debut a Juke ‘N’ Box — an attraction set to music that’s part laser maze, part musical chairs.
“It’s really well-balanced,” Starkel said of the facility. “That’s where the industry’s headed.”
Incredible Mo’s falls into the category of hybrid entertainment centers, Starkel said, which have emerged in the last eight years. They’re a new approach to the classic arcade geared toward children, and offer activities that appeal to a broader market.
“It makes it more of a sound business model,” he said.
Incredible Mo’s is open seven days a week. For hours and more information, visit incrediblemos.com.
