---- — TRAVERSE CITY — The Goodwill Community Holiday Needs program seeks gifts and cash donations to help the area’s needy children and homeless people.
“It’s as easy as buying an extra gift while shopping from our wish list on our website or donating money and letting us do the shopping,” said Ruth Blick, marketing and communication director for Goodwill Northern Michigan. “We use the cash donations for some of the teen things — gift cards and movie tickets.”
The program helps families who are already struggling to pay their regular bills and pays for necessities, such as rent, food and gas, she said.
Families participating in the program are offered the opportunity to “shop” for both gifts and necessities in a temporary store stocked with merchandise purchased or donated specifically for this program. Volunteers help guide families through the process, allowing them to select appropriate gifts for their children in a caring and respectful setting, Blick said.
Goodwill is partnering with Toys for Tots and the Department of Human Services to ensure that no one is left out, Blick said.
Please visit www.goodwillnmi.org/holidayneeds for a wish list or to make an online donation. Financial contributions can be mailed to Goodwill Holiday Needs, 2279 South Airport Rd. W., Traverse City 49684
