---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Heavy snow over the last few days is at the root of numerous traffic crashes, local officials said.
Grand Traverse County deputies responded to about 28 reports of traffic accidents and helped another 28 motorists from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon.
In Leelanau County, deputies responded to another 17 accidents and helped right eight or nine vehicles that had fallen into ditches between Sunday and Tuesday, Leelanau County Undersheriff Steve Morgan said.
“The roads are very slick right now and they have been for the last couple of days,” said Morgan, who advised drivers to drive slowly and wear seat belts.
