Man dead after U.S. 31 crash

— TRAVERSE CITY - An 86-year-old man died after the vehicle in which he was a passenger crossed the center line on U.S. 31 and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

The crash occurred Wednesday at about 2:20 p.m. on U.S. 31 southeast of Betsie River Road and injured five others who occupied the two vehicles, Grand Traverse County sheriff’s deputies said in a press release.

They did not disclose the deceased man’s name.

Deputies said it appears a van driven west by an Onekama woman crossed the center line and struck a truck driven east by a Frankfort man. Each vehicle had two passengers.

The crash remains under investigation.
