Go Global International Fair on tap Saturday

TRAVERSE CITY — Organizers said the public can expect a bigger and better Go Global International Fair and Expo this year.

The fair on Saturday, free to the public, is part of International Education Week and open to anyone interested in learning more about international opportunities, global studies and more.

Breakout sessions and workshops will be held on topics ranging from “Cinema Beyond Borders” to “How to Host an International Student.” Participants can sample international food and take part in activities for all ages including global arts and crafts for children, Latin American dance, African drumming, and indigenous games.

“We attract college students, high school students and their families, even young kids. It’s not age specific,” said Northwestern Michigan College’s Lindsey Wiejaczka, who helped coordinate the event with Traverse City Area Public Schools. “This is the first time we’re integrating music, workshop, culture and arts, turning it into a much bigger and better event.”

Exhibitors will include travel clubs, school programs, language and culture clubs, college and community exchange groups, local businesses, and organizations that provide global learning opportunities and international programming.

World music will be performed by groups from Traverse City Central High School, Traverse City West and Bertha Voss Elementary, among others.

The event, hosted by NMC and TCAPS, will run from noon to 3 p.m. at NMC’s Dennos Museum Center.
