Crews working to restore power

TRAVERSE CITY — Approximately 2,100 electric cooperative customers in the Grand Traverse region remain without power following a powerful storm that swept through the area.

Great Lakes Energy Cooperative reported 1,254 Antrim County homes and businesses without power this morning. Another 690 were without power in Kalkaska County. Grawn-based Cherryland Electric Cooperative said on its website about 181 members were without electricity, 169 of them in Suttons Bay.

A total of 3,525 Great Lakes Energy customers lost power during the storm in Antrim and Kalkaska Counties, said Dave Guzniczak, communications director for the company.

Crews from the energy providers are working to restore power.

Sunday’s storm downed trees, left several roadways flooded and brought with it much colder air. A washout on East Torch Lake Drive near Davock Road in Antrim County closed the road Sunday night into this morning.

“We lost three quarters of the road -— it’s a culvert failure,” said Burt Thompson, engineer and manager at the Antrim County Road Commission.

There were no reports of serious injuries stemming from the storm that packed wind gusts as high as 60 mph.
