---- — GRAWN — Grand Traverse County sheriff's deputies used a Taser on a suicidal Grawn man who pulled out a knife.
Daniel Francis Stahl, 54, faces a resisting arrest charge in 86th District Court.
Deputies were dispatched Sept. 6 to check on Stahl after he made suicidal comments. Court documents state the deputies allowed Stahl to remove groceries from his backpack while they checked on a warrant for Stahl out of Indiana.
"While reaching into his backpack, Stahl retrieved a knife with his right hand," the documents state. "Stahl did not drop the knife when ordered by the deputies and attempted to pull away when grabbed a hold of."
The deputy used his Taser in Stahl's back. The police report states Stahl was handcuffed and told deputies he was going to use the knife on himself.
Stahl made several comments regarding suicide and deputies found a note characterized in the police report as "some sort of bucket list." The list included "take away (cop's) gun," "kill a bear" and "see if being (Tased) will kill me with bad heart."
A preliminary exam is scheduled for Sept. 24 at 11:15 a.m. Stahl also is scheduled for an extradition hearing on Oct. 10 for his warrant from Indiana.
